Alaska

Key Laws

Alaska Personal Information Protection Act

This law requires business that collect data to have security measures to protect the user’s data from being misused. Along with this, it restricts a person’s social security number being available to the public.

The Alaska Health Care Services Privacy Act

This law regulates the usage and handling of a patient’s information by restricting disclosure without consent. It obligates health care providers, health insurers, and any other organization dealing with data to abide by this law.

Looking Ahead

There are a lot of new and upcoming digital privacy laws that the state government is developing. Since both the key laws depicted above are before 2011, there needs to be a focus to update legislation to address the current trends. In 2021, a new bill called “Consumer Data Privacy Act” was introduced that grants a user to various rights regarding their personal information. SB 2 is another new bill that attempts to set guidelines on the usage of AI on state residents. Alaska also lacks a comprehensive bill that summarizes the digital data laws like other states. Join the movement to help pass the “Consumer Data Privacy Act“ and save your private data!!
