Vermont Data Privacy Act

This law is aimed to put strict requirements on how businesses collect, use, and share personal data. It also included a limited private right of action and targeted large data holders and data brokers, but was ultimately vetoed by current Governor Phil Scott.

Consumer Rights

  • Right to confirm and access your private data

  • Right to correct any of your private data

  • Right to delete your private data

  • Right to transfer your private data

  • Right to say no to the processing of private data

Who the Law Applies to

  • Controlled or processed the personal data of at least 25,000 Vermont consumers

  • Controlled or processed the personal data of at least 12,500 consumers and derived more than 25% of their gross revenue from selling personal data
